A View Of Wildspitze And Weißkugel

A well-maintained trail links Hochjochhospiz with Vernagthütte and Breslauer Hütte, and takes you near majestic Wildspitze, Tirol’s tallest mountain, and beautiful Weißkugel, at 3738 meters the Ötztal Alps’ second tallest peak. Although the landscape is dominated by mighty glaciers, the tour leads entirely through ice-free terrain. Leaving Hochjochhospiz the trail climbs through meadows and then contours along the slopes above Rofental. If you look to the south-west you can see the eternal ice of Weißkugel. The route continues in a northern direction above River Vernagtbach and then makes a left towards Vernagthütte (2 hrs.). From the hut the trail backtracks, crosses River Vernagtbach and climbs to the meadows on Platteiberg. The trail crosses Platteikar and weaves its way gently uphill and downhill through Mitterkar. Just above Mitterkar you can see Wildspitze, which looks unusually rocky from this angle. From here it’s only a few more minutes down to Breslauer Hütte. Between Vernagthütte and Breslauer Hütte the route follows Seufertweg.
