STUIBENFALL WATERFALL IN UMHAUSEN

History

The story starts some 9800 years ago. The mighty glacier fields of the Ice Age move back, leaving behind a rough mountain valley full of hazards: loose masses of rock, rubbles and rugged mountain flanks. Very slowly the permafrost thaws, at least two thirds of the mountains and peaks are crashing down into the valley. Incredible masses of soil and rock form the so-called "Tauferberg" area by barricading the mountain brook coming down from "Horlachtal" valley. The water finds its own way, all of a sudden the Stuiben Falls emerge - Tirol's highest waterfall!

Nature Spectacle

The "Horlachbach" brook rushes down into the valley from a height of 159 meters. The meter-high area filled with water crystals can be seen from far. These clouds of water dust particles also gave the name to the "Stuiben Falls". The water particles are said to have refreshing and positive effects on the visitors' health. What's more, the wonderful Alpine flora in the falls' surroundings are a highlight not to be missed. And with a bit of luck you also have the chance to admire colorful rainbows on sunny days. Not to forget the natural rock falling areas high above the rushing mountain brook.

Hiking Paradise

The scenic walking path is easily accessible and can be found to the right of the waterfalls. Across tree roots and stairs made of rock you reach the top of the trail and the five spectacular viewing platforms located in-between the stages. Experience the full force of the rushing mountain waters.
On your way to the highest platform, you cross the falls on a secured suspension bridge, offering uninterrupted panoramic views of the gorge. Admire the breathtaking Stuiben Falls from a dizzy height high above the ground.
The adventurous hike plus a visit to the viewing platform takes approximately 90 minutes. The tour is perfectly suitable for children and families with baby back carriers, but you are strongly recommended to leave at home baby carriages and prams.

Climbing Arena

Also for passionate climbing fans the Stuiben Falls make a wonderful spot. On the left, right next to the rushing waters, sportsmen find a newly installed and family-friendly via ferrata. It is perfectly secured and of intermediate difficulty – a wonderful experience for the whole family.
On a length of approximately 450 meters young climbers over 10 years can explore the Stuiben Falls for themselves on a rope. Real dare devils cross the falls on almost invisible steel ropes in vicinity to the natural stone bridge. Less experienced climbers should join one of the guided tours with a certified instructor. The appropriate climbing equipment is available for rent in the nearby mountain guide offices.
