Snow in abundance instead of white ribbons amidst green landscapes: winter sports enthusiasts can rely on the white element on the top floor of Ötztal Valley. Thanks to the high Alpine location (1800 - 3080 m altitude) and smartly controlled snowmaking systems, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl has been the first non-glacier ski area in Tirol to start the winter season for many years already - offering the full variety of slopes and winter fun. 112 kilometers of immaculate runs boast first-class conditions from mid-November to late April.
For many years, the lift companies of Obergurgl and Hochgurgl have been showing their green ideas when it comes to snow production: thanks to computer-controlled snowmaking, the systems start automatically as soon as temperature and humidity are perfect. Detailed information is provided by five weather stations spread all over the ski area. The energy required is sourced from green electricity. The water comes from five reservoirs and is pumped to the slopes as UV-irradiated, sterilized drinking water in the form of snow.
