The Hochstubaihütte is located at 3175 m above sea level and therefor this hut is

the highest hut of the DAV in the Stubai Alps and the third highest situated hut in Austria.

The hike starts at the Windachalm / Fiegls hut.

To the Seekarsee the narrow path leads over mountain meadows and then from the lake very steeply over stones to a old from stone made hut. From there you go steeply uphill over the Himmelleiter (stonestairs) to the hut.

Author’s recommendation

In summer there is a taxi, which runs from Sölden to the Windachalm. So you save  the way from Sölden to the Windachalm.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the Windachalm, a well-marked trail winds along serpentines up to the Seekarsee.

From Seekarsee it goes very steep up to an old out of stone made hut. Later, you have to cross rocks and plates. After a few meters of altitude, the ascent begins via layered steps, the so-called Himmelsleiter. If you reach the ridge height, it is only a short walk to the already visible Hochstubaihütte.

The descent is via the same route (about 2.5 hours) or via the Laubkarsee to the Kleblealm (3 hours)
