Top Mountain Motorcycle
Museum in Hochgurgl

Superlative Motorcycle Museum

The motorcycle museum was completely destroyed by a major fire in January 2021. The unique private collection fell victim to the flames. The reconstruction not only expanded and renewed the lost collection, but also the entire concept of the museum. The Top Mountain Crosspoint makes a communicative heart of Hochgurgl. It unites the road toll station of the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, the base terminal of Kirchenkar mountain gondola, a homely restaurant with table service and Europe's highest motorbike museum under one roof. Guests make a pilgrimage there if they have had enough of the snow for a while and start dreaming of more horsepower.

Motorized eyecatcher

Fascinating motorcycles & a real classic car experience: Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum

First of all: You don't have to be a two-wheel fan yourself to get into raptures here. The architecture of the exhibition area alone is fairly remarkable, and so are the countless exhibits. Over 500 vintage motorcycles from more than 150 different manufacturers as well as some rare automobiles tell their story on 4500 m². In addition to motorcycles from around the globe, visitors are also noticeably brought closer to the motor experience itself. The 4D cinema lets the "wind" blow through your hair and the "Sound of Motorbikes" makes you feel like a racing biker at full throttle on the home straight. To mention just two of the many new features. Is there even more? Yes, of course! As if one of the most extensive and precious collections in Austria and the varied activity stations were not enough, special theme exhibitions are regularly presented.

Perceptible Motor Experience

4D Cinema
Experience a tour for "real" with or without a motorcycle license. Five different simulations on the latest KTM motorcycles, including wind effects, will take you on a simulated ride on a mountain pass road.

Motor Wall
An oversized LED digital surface impressively presents the surrounding region and Timmelsjoch Pass through several images, videos, animations and transmissions of all kinds.

Motorbike Insights
The media table clearly explains what happens under the bonnet. The differences between two-stroke and four-stroke engines and all mechanisms that are responsible for a well-functioning engine are presented in a virtual and acoustically exciting way.

Sound of Motorbikes
Get on the motorcycle, start, accelerate and you will experience the real "sound of motorbikes". With the help of the latest technology, an authentic sound is simulated through vibrations. Certainly, a true highlight: the MotoGP winning bike KTM is also available for this adventure.

Vehicles around the World
A media production in a class of its own shows special vehicles from all over the world on 65 inch displays that are hanging freely in the room.

Hochgurgl, Top Mountain Crosspoint, Restaurant

Restaurant at Top Mountain Crosspoint

To round off your visit to the museum, we strongly recommend stopping off at the excellent restaurant with table service right next door. Lots of wood, a little steel and a cozy open fire characterize the spacious and modern Alpine ambience. The kitchen team relies uncompromisingly on fresh, regional ingredients in order to spoil all guests with authentic dishes from Austria and Italy as well as seasonal specialties from North and South Tyrol.
