Starting point is Gasthof Stern Inn (closed) in Roppen. There you take the broad road to Maisalm Hut (1,631m), then continue walking along a smaller trail and a footpath to Muthütte Refuge and further to Mutkopf Peak (1,990m). Follow the slightly rising ridge southwards until you get to Forchheimer Bivouac (2443m, approx. 2 hours from Maisalm Hut). Continue walking on the path between Weiter Karkopf Peak and Murmentenkarspitze eak where the route leads down to Weitees Kar Cirque. Then the trail climbs moderately across rocky terrain to the east ridge of Hoher Kogl Peak. Down again in the south-western direction, you reach an overhanging rock just before you get to Erlanger Hut (2,541m) Hiking time: ca. 7 hours, Difference in altitude: approx. 2000m (ascent)
Erlanger Hut (2,541m) - Frischmann Hut (2,192m)
Take the south-facing footpath starting at Erlanger Hut and leading to the small lake. Continue walking uphill and southwards until the footpath leads down to a tiny basin. Follow the upper Leierstal Valley southwards and continue hiking ont he steeply rising trail that leads sotuh-eastwards to Feilerscharte Ridge (2,926m) situated right below Fundusfeiler Peak (3,080m, easy ascent to the summit). A steep trail takes you down to Funduskar Basin and on to Frischmannhütte Refuge (2,192m).
Frischmannhütte Refuge (2,192m) - Hauerseehütte Refuge (2,383m)
Follow the strenuously climbing footpath in the east of Griesköpfe Peaks and Blockkogl Mountain. The challenging trail leads directly to Felderjöchl Saddle (2,797m) before it descends steeply - past Weißer See Lake in the east - down to Innerbergtal Valley and Hauersee Hut Refuge (2,383m) Hiking time: approx. 7 - 8 hours, Difference in altitude: approx. 1000m (ascent)
Hauerseehütte Refuge (2,383m) - Rüsselsheimer Hut (2,328m)
The trail from Hauerseehütte Refuge climbs moderately along the western ridge up to Hauerferner Glacier. Via Luibisscharte Saddle (2,914m, ascent to Luibiskogl Peak at 3112m, along the easy climbing trail starting at the small glacier basin below the saddleback) you get to the upper part of Luibiskar Saddle by following the steep trail towards Breitlehnjöchl Ridge (2,637m) and Kapuzinerjoch Ridge (2,710m). Continue hiking to the stunning Gahwinden vantage point (2,648m) and follow the footpath down to Rüsselsheimer Hut (2,323m). Hiking time: approx. 6 hour, Difference in altitude: approx. 850m (ascent)
Rüsselsheimer Hut (2,323m) - Braunschweiger Hut (2,758m); Mainzer Höhenweg Trail
Take the footpath to Weißmaurachjoch Ridge (2,953m) and continue heading southwards. Cross the glacier field and follow the descending trail past the glacier's crevasses located below Puitkogl Peak. The trail leaves another glacier field behind, leading up to Wassertalkogl Peak (3,252m) featuring the rheinland Pfalz Bivouac. Proceed along the ridge, cross another glacier field and get finally to Pitztaler Jöchl Ridge (2,996m). Either you continue walking down to Braunschweiger Hut (2,758m) or you head for the car park at Rettenbach Glacier (and take the bus back to Sölden.) Hiking time: approx. 8 hours, Difference in altitude: approx. 1300m (ascent)

Enjoy a both comfortable and relaxing train ride to the train station in Ötztal Bahnhof. You get off the train in ÖTZTAL Bahnhof where you change to a public bus or local taxi. The current bus schedule can be found at: http://fahrplan.vvt.at
