Summer holidays in Gurgl 2020

Holidays in Gurgl are possible despite roadblock

Until approx. 20 July 2020, Gurgl can only be reached via South Tyrol (Italy). A geologically very unstable slope above the B 186 - Ötztal Federal Road requires a COMPLETE road closure on Ötztal's side from Zwieselstein.

The journey to GURGL is currently only possible via Timmelsjoch Pass. The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Toll Road is open daily from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm during the day.

Timmelsjoch open from the south.

A crumb of comfort in view of this restriction: the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Toll Road also offers a unique experience coming from the south. Therefore Gurgl – with its local hamlets Untergurgl, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl - can be reached from South Tyrol/Italy during the roadblock.

Gurgl boasts a double summer start.

Despite the roadblock, the "Diamond of the Alps" still promises pure hiking enjoyment and natural idyll against the high Alpine mountain backdrop. For the time being with a reduced offer.

Just in time for the "second" start of the season, from 20. july, the entire Alpine summer offer will be available again. Such as Europe's highest Motorcycle Museum at the Top Mountain Crosspoint or Hohe Mut Alm with fabulous mountain panoramas. All summer mountain lifts in Gurgl will be in operation again from August. If you prefer walking on foot, you can hike the scenic Piccard Trail including Ramolhaus and Langtalereckhütte.

We hope to see you soon again in Gurgl!
Best regards, the Ötztal Tourismus Team
